Article content

Dry January, Damp January, Veganuary, heaving gyms, healthy living…

January is a time for reflection for many people, as it marks the beginning of a new year.

People often take this time to reflect on the (often bad) decisions they have made in the past year, and consider what changes, if any, need to be made for the coming year.

Many often reflect on their relationships – how they have grown, as well as how they can improve them. They may also consider their health and how they can make positive changes...Finally, given that January 21st is recognised as the most popular day in the year for resignations. A lot of people reading this blog may also have found themselves reflecting on their career and considering what changes they can make to move forward in their chosen field this month.

Deciding to leave a job can be a difficult decision, and it's important to carefully consider all of your options before making a move. Here are a few signs that it might be time to hand in your notice and look for a new job:

1.    You're consistently unhappy at work. If you find that you're consistently unhappy or stressed at work, it might be time to consider moving on. It's normal to have ups and downs in any job, but if the negatives outweigh the positives on a regular basis, it might be time to start looking for something new.

2.    You're not being challenged. If you're feeling bored or unchallenged in your current role, it might be a sign that it's time to move on. It's important to feel like you're learning and growing in your career, and if you're not getting that opportunity in your current job, it might be time to look for something new.

3.    Your values don't align with the company's. If you find that the values of your company don't align with your own, it can be difficult to feel fulfilled in your job. If you consistently feel like you're at odds with the company's mission or values, it might be time to consider moving on.

4.    You're not being paid what you're worth. If you feel like you're underpaid or undervalued in your current role, it might be time to start looking for something new. It's important to feel like you're being fairly compensated for your work, and if you're not getting that in your current job, it might be time to consider other options.

5.    You’ve done you’re research and there seems to be better opportunities elsewhere. Sometimes, the best reason to leave a job is simply that you have a better opportunity elsewhere. If you have a chance to advance your career or work in a field that you're more passionate about, it might be worth considering making a move.

Ultimately, the decision to leave a job is a personal one, and it's important to carefully weigh all of your options before making a move. The average person will spend approximately 90,000 hours working over the course of their life. If you're feeling stuck, like you’re not getting anywhere, or unhappy in your current role, it might be worth considering exploring other opportunities and seeing what else is out there.
